Volleyball vs Adelphi Preview

FLUSHING, N.Y.- The Queens College volleyball team opens a three-game homestand starting with the Panthers of Adelphi University. Tuesday evening match-up in Flushing will be the first one since the 2012 season which saw the Panthers run away with a 3-1 victory. The Knights are currently on a six-game losing streak against the Panthers with the last win coming in 2008. Dating back to 1994, the Knights lead the overall series 14-9 (60.87%) in 23 games played. Queens will look to defend their home court as they are 7-2 record in Flushing against Adelphi.

The Knights never got going against the Panthers as both teams took part in the Bloomfield Tri-Match. With a -.092 hitting percentage, the rhythm was never there as the team committed 14 hitting errors. Dee-Ana Mitchell and Lauren Kehoe combined for four kills, while Genesis Soto Ruiz tallied five digs in the three-set loss. 
 
Scouting Queens College Knights 
 
The Knights are on a five-game losing streak have been swept in three out of five matches. Offensively freshman Christina Franco (Lynbrook, N.Y.) leads the Knights averaging 2.38 kills per set with 69 kills. Not far behind Junior Dee-Ana Mitchell's (Middle Island, N.Y.) has tallied 45 kills averaging 2.65 kills per set in five matches played. Sophomore Leila Hadjeb leads the Knights with 11 service aces. While sophomore Alexis Deodat (Riverview, Fla.) leads the defense with 23 blocks. 
 
Scouting Adelphi University
 
The Panthers are 9-2 on the season and riding a four-game winning streak having won 12 straights sets. Samantha Meehan leads the offense averaging 2.71 kills per set with 103 kills. Meehan has tallied five games with 10 kills or more including 17 kills against Ursuline. While Delaney Kiendra is averaging 2.82 kills per set with 93 kills and has tallied back-to-back performances of 10 kills or more coming into Tuesday's match. Samantha Collins and Lilyen McCarthy lead the defense averaging 0.69 and 0.83 blocks per set. 
 
Next Match-up: East Coast Conference play opens up Saturday (Sept. 25) as the Knights host the Wildcats of Daemen College. First serve is set for noon.
