#44 Men’s Tennis Concludes 2021 Season in NCAA East Regional First Round

FLUSHING, N.Y.- On Saturday afternoon, playing in their 19th straight NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament, the Queens College men's tennis team locked heads with the Le Moyne College Dolphins. But the Knights were unable to move to the next round as they fell 4-2 to conclude their 2021 season in Flushing at the QC Tennis Courts. 
 
In the latest ITA rankings released on Friday (May 7) afternoon the Knights were one of the top 50 teams in the nation ranking in at #44, while the Dolphins earned the #41 spot. 
 
Doubles Competition
 
The Knights trailed 1-0 following the conclusion of doubles play as the Dolphins won at the #2 and #3 doubles courts. 
 
The #3 doubles pair of freshmen Omar El Shehawey (Cairo, Egypt) / senior Eduardo Marino (Sao Paulo, Brazil)  fell first as Ethan Miller / Felipe Cruz defeated the Knights duo to the score of 6-3. The Dolphins would clinch the doubles points as the No. 2 doubles pair of sophomore Moritz Borges (Hunxe, Germany) / junior Lucas Demuth (Buenos Aires, Argentina)  were defeated 6-4 by Jared Howard / James Howard. 
 
The action at No. 1 doubles court between junior Kareem Rashad (Alexandria, Egypt) and sophomore Mariano Bibiloni (La Plata, Argentina) against Philip Blythe / Tom Jarry remained unfinished with the match tied 5-5. 
 
Singles Competition
 
Demuth tied the match 1-1 following a two-set victory (6-2, 6-1) over James Howard at the No. 4 spot. But the Dolphins would go up 3-1 as freshman  Tim Ostheimer (Frankfurt, Germany) fell 7-6 (7-1), 6-2 against Jared Howard at the No. 1 spot before Jarry defeated Shehawey to the score of 6-3, 6-4. 
 
Borges would bring with Knights within one following a three-set victory over Cruz to the scoreline of 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 at the No. 6 spot. But the Dolphins would move to the next round as Rashad fell 6-4, 6-4 against Blythe at the No. 3 spot. 
 
While Bibiloni's match at the No. 5 spot remained unfinished in the third set to the score of 6-0, 4-6, 4-1. 
 
The Knights finish the season with an 8-7 record overall, 6-0 in East Coast Conference play. 
 
The Knights say farewell to senior Eduardo Marino (Sao Paulo, Brazil) who will graduate this spring. In two seasons the Brazilian native saw time at the No. 3 singles spot to No. 6 spot. In singles play, he finishes with an overall record of 5-3, and in doubles with a record of 7-8. 
 
Going into the 2021-2022 season head coach Somadi Druker is ten wins away from the century mark with an overall record of 90-42.
