Men’s Tennis Drops Tough Regional Matchup against #21 Concordia (N.Y.)

BRONXVILLE, N.Y.- The Queens College men's tennis team played their first nationally-ranked team of the year as they went up against #21 Concordia College (N.Y.) Clippers on Wednesday afternoon at Myers Tennis Court. 

The Knights picked up two singles competition wins but were defeated 5-2 by the Clippers in non-conference action. The loss moves the Knights to 3-4 overall, while the Clippers improved to 5-0 on the season. 
 
Doubles Competition
 
The Knights trailed 1-0 after the conclusion of double plays as the Clippers picked up wins at the No. 1 and 2 spots to take the doubles points.  The No. 3 doubles sophomore duo of Moritz Borges (Hunxe, Germany) / Julius Schulte (Dusseldorf, Germany) won picked up their second doubles win of the year as they defeated the pair of Oskar Irdojo / Henry Masters to the score of 6-2. 
 
The Knights No.1 pair of junior Kareem Rashad (Alexandria, Egypt) and Sophomore Mariano Bibiloni (La Plata, Argentina) fell to the scoreline of 6-3 to the nationally ranked #14 doubles pair of Tobias Lentz / Jonatan Lundahl. The Knights debuted a new double duo at the No. 2 slot as Eduardo Marino (Sao Paulo, Brazil) / freshman Omar El Shehawey (Cairo, Egypt) teamed up for the first time this season but were defeated 6-3 to the Clippers No. 2 duo of William Nilsson / Jan Godfrey Seno. 
 
Singles Competition
 
Queens picked up singles win at the No. 2 and 3 spots as Bibiloni defeated Lundahl at the No. 2 spot winning 6-2, 6-2. At the No. 3 spot, Shehawey was victorious over Henry as he picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win. 
 
Rashad fell 6-2, 6-0 to nationally ranked #30 Lentz at the No. 1 spot. Borges was defeated by Seno 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 4 spot. 
 
Marino playing his third singles competition of the year fought hard as he was defeated 7-6 (7-4) in a first-set tiebreaker before eventually falling 6-3 in the second set at the No. 5 slot. While freshman Francisco Gonzalez (La Plata, Argentina) dropped his first regional competition of the year as he was defeated by Irdoja to the score of 6-4, 6-2.
 
UP NEXT: The Knights will resume East Coast Conference action with a Sunday (Apr. 18) doubleheader in Flushing as the Knights welcome Daemen College and St. Thomas Aquinas.
First game is slated for 11 a.m. start time.
