MTEN Moves to 2-0 in Conference with 5-1 Victory Over Daemen College

BUFFALO, N.Y.- Playing their third game of the weekend road trip in Buffalo, N.Y., the Queens College Knights men's tennis defeated the Wildcats of Daemen College 5-1 in East Coast Conference (ECC) action Sunday afternoon at Williamsville South HS. 
 
With the win, the Knights improve to 3-3 overall, 2-0 in ECC, while the Wildcats moved to 1-2 overall, 0-2 in ECC. 
 
Doubles Competition
 
The Knights would trail 1-0 after doubles play as they were defeated at the No. 1 and 2 slot as freshman Tim Ostheimer (Frankfurt, Germany) / senior Eduardo Marino (Sao Paulo, Brazil) fell 6-2 to Ben Davis / Sam Greco at the No. 1 slot. At the No. 2 slot freshman Omar El Shehawey (Cairo, Egypt) / sophomore Mariano Bibiloni (La Plata, Argentina) were defeated 6-2 by the pair of Jose Williamson III / Phillip Vance. 
 
The No. 3 doubles sophomore duo of Moritz Borges (Hunxe, Germany) / Julius Schulte (Dusseldorf, Germany) swept the Wildcats pair of Matthew Gary / Ross Belen to the score of 6-0 but the Knights trailed 1-0 going into singles competition.
 
Singles Competition
 
The Knights wasted no time in tying the match as freshman Francisco Gonzalez (La Plata, Argentina) swept Greco 6-0, 6-0 in straight sets at No. 4 slot. Borges would give the Knights the lead for good as he defeated Williamson III 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot. 
 
Queens went up 3-1 as Bibiloni defeated Vance 6-1, before completing the second set victory in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-4) in the No. 2 spot. Ostheimer would clinch the victory for the Knights at the No. 1 slot defeating Davis 7-6, 6-0 as the Knights went up 4-1. 
 
In the No. 6 spot, Schulte went 2-0 on the day as he swept Matthew Barry 6-0, 6-0 giving the Knighs a 5-1 win to complete the weekend sweep of the Wildcats. At the No. 5 spot, senior Hugo Evangelista de Andrade (Goiania, Brazil) competition was recorded as a DNF as he was up 7-6 after the first set. 
 
UP NEXT: The Knights will play their fourth Division 1 team of the season as they go up against NEC member St. Francis College Brooklyn on Tuesday (Apr. 13) at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. First serve is slated for 1:00 p.m.
