FLUSHING, N.Y.- Sophomore lefty
Liam Pulsipher (East Moriches, N.Y.) (2-1, 9.0 IP, 3H, 12K) twirled the first complete-game shutout of his career and the Knights offenses exploded for eight runs on 13 hits on Saturday afternoon at Hennekens Stadium.
With an 8-0 win, the Queens College Knights completed the three-game East Coast Conference (ECC) series sweep against the visiting D'Youville College Saints. With the sweep, the Knights improved to 6-5 overall, 5-4 in ECC play, while the Saints moved to 2-12 overall, 0-8 in ECC action. Queens won their second ECC series and first sweep of the season.
Making his fourth start of the season, the lefty went a career-high 9.0 innings and surrendered just three hits, all singles, did not allow a walk, and struck out a career-high 12 batters in the outing. Pulsipher was efficient, needing 103 pitches for the complete game, and needed 10 pitches or less in an inning six times on the afternoon as he was barely in trouble at all.
The Knights notched 13 hits on the day, as five batters recorded multi-hit games, while freshman
Reed Hoskins (Freeport, N.Y.) (2-4 AB, R, 2RBI) and sophomore
Jayson Rodopoulos (Scarsdale, N.Y.) (1-4 AB, 2RBI) recorded a pair of RBIs on the afternoon.
The East Moriches native was perfect through five innings of play as he kept the Saints hitless, while the Knights offense gave him a 6-0 lead after four innings. The Knights would tally a run in the run in the sixth and seventh inning increasing their lead to 8-0.
With two outs in the top half of the sixth, the Saints would record their first hit of the afternoon effectively ending the no-hitter for Pulsipher. The Saints never had more than one runner on base all afternoon and had a runner in scoring position just twice.
Pulsipher is the first Knights to record a complete-game win shutout since April of 2019 when
Michael Lamneck and
James McGee combined to shutout St. Thomas Aquinas in the 4-0 win.
UP NEXT: With their Wednesday (Apr. 14) doubleheader against Caldwell University Cougars postponed, the Knights will hit the road for a Friday (Apr. 16) afternoon doubleheader against the Mercy College Mavericks. Game one is scheduled for a noon start.
