FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College men's basketball team concludes 2021 at home as they welcome Molloy College Lions to Flushing in East Coast Conference action. In 61 games, the Knights hold a 34-27 edge over the Lions. Queens ended a seven-game skid last season when they defeated the Lions in Rockville Centre, N.Y. en route to a postseason berth. But the Lions have won their last four games in Flushing, with the Knights last win coming during the 2015-16 season as they took a convincing 78-62 victory.

Tied 44-44 at halftime, Kevin Buron was a strong force in the low post as he collected his tenth point of the game and helped Queens start a 21-8 second-half run with Dwayne Henry Jr. knocking down an exclamation-point three-ball at the midpoint of the second half to give Queens a 65-52 lead. The Knights had one of their best team shooting performances specifically from behind the three-point line; Queens went 11-for-28 (39.3%) from distance in the win and hit 48.6% (34-70) of its shots from the floor.
 
Scouting Queens College 
 
Queens is 2-4 overall, 0-2 in conference play, and have lost their last three games. 
 
As a team, Queens is averaging 68.3 points, 41.2 rebounds, and 13.3 assists per game. Three-point and free-throw shooting has been a struggle as they have only been able to hit 27.1 percent from beyond the arc and 58.3 percent from the charity stripe. 
 
Junior William Ellis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) leads the Knights offense averaging 11.3 points per game, while the freshman duo of Jayden Seraphin (Lakeview, N.Y.) and Shamar Chester (Queens, N.Y.) are averaging 11.0 points per game. Seraphin made his first career start on Saturday as the Knights shook up the starting lineup for the first time this season. 
 
While senior Eddie Mehmetaj (Jamaica, N.Y.) leads the team averaging 8.7 rebounds per game and has tallied two double-doubles on the season. Ellis has tallied five double-digit scoring performances on the season including a season-high 14 points in the loss to Staten Island. 
 
Chester and Seraphin have been awarded East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week honors, while Mehmetaj and Chester have earned a honor roll spot on the weekly report sheets. 
 
Scouting Molloy College
 
Molloy comes to Flushing with a 2-7 overall record, 2-0 in ECC play. The Lions' lone wins have come in conference play with victories over Staten Island and the District of Columbia. 
 
As a team the Lions are averaging 63.3 points, 35.6 rebounds, and 11.1 assists per game. William Muller and Darren Fergus lead the offense averaging 13.5 points and 13.0 points per game. Muller has appeared in six games on the season and has tallied five double-digit performances including a season-high 23 points in the loss against Pace. While Fergus has started all nine games for the Lions and has tallied seven double-digit scoring efforts including 20 points in the loss to Adelphi.
 
UP NEXT:  Queens will hit the road to start the new year as they travel to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. on Wednesday (January 5) with a conference matchup against Mercy College. Tipoff set for 7:00 p.m.
