Women’s Basketball vs. District of Columbia Game Day Preview

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College women's basketball team returns to action after a two-week hiatus as they travel to the nation's capital to open up East Coast Conference play. The Knights will go up against the University of the District of Columbia Saturday afternoon. Queens is on a four-game losing streak against UDC with their last win coming during the 17-18 season.

Queens got off to a slow start as they trailed 19-9 after the first quarter. The Knights were unable to get back within a single-digit deficit the rest of the way as the Firebirds went 28-for-64 (44%) from the field and 9-of-19 (47%) from three-point territory in the game. QC, meanwhile, was just 15-of-47 (32%) on shots from the floor hitting just one three-pointer in eleven attempts in the loss.
 
Scouting Queens College
 
Queens (0-5) heads into the ECC opener searching for their first win of the season. As a team the Knights are averaging 66.0 points on 40.9 percent shooting, 40.6 rebounds, and 15.2 assists per game. Saturday's match-up will be just the second game road trip of the season since they traveled to Post University back on November 20th
 
Junior Khadija Demry (Brooklyn, N.Y.) leads the offense averaging 37.8 minutes per game, with 17.2 points per game, on 40.9 percent shooting. The Brooklyn native has tallied four double-digit scoring efforts including two 20-point efforts this season. While sophomore Aalia Carlson (Montclair, N.J.) is starting to find her footing on the offense and is averaging 12.0 points in the past three games including posting season-high 16 points against Felician on November 20. 

Demry has been placed on the East Coast Conference honor roll sheet twice this season. 
 
Scouting District of Columbia
 
The Firebirds are 5-4 overall, 1-0 in ECC play. They saw a two-game win streak snapped on Tuesday (Dec. 7) as they fell 76-56 to Lincoln University (Pa.). The Firebirds opened conference play with a 72-69 win over Molloy on December 1st. This season they are 3-1 at home and are in the middle of a season-high six-game homestand. 
 
As a team, the Firebirds are averaging 62.0 points, 42.1 rebounds, and 12.1 assists per game. Latavia Jackson leads the team averaging 14.9 points and 7.8 rebounds points per game. Jackson has tallied seven double-digit scoring efforts to go with four 20-point performances including a season-high 22 points against Caldwell on November 13.
 
UP NEXT: Queens returns home on Wednesday (Dec. 15) as they welcome the Lions of Molloy College in conference play. Tip-off set for 5:30 p.m.
