FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College men's basketball team showed no signs of a hangover coming off a week off on Monday evening, putting together its most complete performance of the young 2021-22 season in a 75-51 rout of Georgian Court University Lions at Fitzgerald Gymnasium.
Queens (2-1 overall) led wire-to-wire on Monday as they returned back to the wins column holding the Lions to 51 points in the contest. The Knights earned their first win over the Lions as they snapped a three-game losing streak.
How It Happened
Queens was clicking from the opening tip as they opened the game on a 12-4 run and never looked back. By the eight-minute media timeout, the Knights had raced out to a 33-14 lead led by freshman
Shamar Chester (Queens, N.Y.) shooting 4-of-4 from the field and took a 44-21 lead into halftime. Queens shot a sizzling 62.1 percent in the first half – while owning a 13-2 advantage in points off turnovers through the first 20 minutes.
In the second half, Queens would lead as much as 27 points and never let the lead fall under 21 points for the remainder of the game.
By the Numbers
The Knights had 10 players register two points or more with Chester leading the way with 15 points (5-of-7 FG), while junior
William Ellis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) tallied 12 points (6-of-13 FG) in the win.
Senior
Evan Goldberg (Wantagh, N.Y.) earned his first start of the season as he tallied a career-high 12 rebounds.
Queens shot 50.0 percent (30-of-60) from the field and 30.8 percent (8-of-26) from three. Georgian Court was held to 33.3 percent (20-of-60) from the field and 27.3 percent (6-of-22) from beyond the arc. The Knights committed a season-low 10 turnovers as they held a 19-9 advantage on 12 Lions turnovers.
