Women’s Basketball Drops Heartbreaker at Post, 67-65

WATERBURY, CT – On Saturday afternoon junior Khadija Demry Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored a career-high 24 points, but it would not be enough as the Queens College women's basketball team (0-3 overall) fell 67-65 to Post University Eagles in non-conference action.

How it Happened
Demry would score the first seven points of the game for the Knights but the Eagles would build an eight lead point with 2:32 left in the first quarter. The Brooklyn native would finish 5-of-5 from the field in the first quarter as she single-handled kept Queens in the game. Trailing 21-13, Demry would finish with 11 points but the Knights would trail 21-17 after the first quarter.

A made free throw by freshman Jennah DeGout would bring the Knight within one before the Eagles went on a 7-2 run taking a 30-24 lead with 4:57 left until halftime. Trailing by seven, Queens would put together a 5-0 run led by DeGout and sophomore Aalia Carlson (Montclair, N.J.) as they cut the deficit down to 32-30. The Knights would go into halftime trailing by one, 41-40 as they finished the final 3:39 minutes on a 10-8 run.

Both sides would open the second half on a slow note as they combined to miss their first four shots. At 8:46 the Knights would tie the game 41-41 before a DeGout made free throw would give Queens their first lead of the game, 42-41 at 7:25. The remainder of the third quarter would see both teams combine for four ties but Post would take a 52-50 lead heading into the fourth.

The Eagles would take a four-point lead, 54-50 before the Knights went on a 10-2 run from 7:40 to 4:50 taking a four-point lead 60-56. Led by Eagle's Tia Pagan, the home side would respond with a 7-2 run and retake a 63-61 lead with 1:07 left in regulation.

Kiera Fernandes would give the home side a three-point advantage, 65-62 but she would miss the free throw and leave enough time on the clock for the Knights to tie the game.

Demry would hit a clutch three and tie the game 65-65 with .05 seconds left. But Pagan would score the game-winning layup to leave the Knights dejected with the final score of 67-65.
