Women’s Tennis Western New York Trip Preview

FLUSHING, N.Y.- The Queens College women's tennis team travel to Buffalo New York as they go up against Daemen College Wildcats Friday (Oct. 9) and D'Youville College Saturday (Oct. 10) in East Coast Conference action. The Knights are undefeated against the Wildcats carrying an 8-0 record dating back to the 2013 season. While they will meet the Saints for the first time in program history.

Queens swept Daemen in the ECC Play-in championship match back in flushing on route to their second consecutive ECC crown. The Knights clinched the doubles point as the No. 3 pair of Gabriela Sciarrotta (Woodmere, N.Y.) / Aleksandra Caricic (New York, N.Y.) gave the Knights an early lead defeating the Wildcats pair of Mackenzie Schayes / Hannah Pagano to the score of 6-1. The Knights No. 2 duo of Lilly Schmidt (Montabaur, Germany) / Nathalie Ulander (Stockholm, Sweden) would clinch the doubles points defeating the duo of Kayla Nguyen / Courtney Otis, 6-1.
 
In singles play Sciarrotta, Lovisa Engstrand (Stockholm, Sweden)  and Caricic clinched victories in singles play to advance the Knights to the ECC final. 
 
Scouting Queens College Knights 
 
The Knights (1-1) are coming off a 7-0 victory against Dominican College on Sunday (Oct. 3). 
Junior Maja Makal (Bialystok, Poland) is 2-0 in singles #1 with victories coming against UDC Simone Parn and Dominican Rupkatha Mukherjee. While junior Sciarrotta has picked up victories at Singles #2 and #3 on the season including a 6-1, 6-0 over Dominican Nora Frederic. Freshman Shakima Hotaki (Flushing, N.Y.) made her singles debut at #5 and picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Ava O'Brien. 

Sunday's performance earned Makal ECC WTEN Player of the Week, while Sciarrotta and Hotaki saw their name being placed on the honor roll sheet. 
 
Scouting Daemen 
 
The Wildcats are 3-2 overall, 1-0 ECC on the season, and are fresh off their 6-1 victory over Molloy College. Frida Rubio leads the Wildcats with a 3-2 at Singles #1 while Christina Stasiuk is 3-2 at #2. Daemen is 1-2 against Division II opponents on the season, with losses against Walsh and Le Moyne. 
 
Scouting D'Youville
 
The Saints are 3-3 overall, 0-1 ECC on the season with losses coming against DII Le Moyne, Molloy, and Post University (CT). At Singles #1, Camilla Duteil and Yuliia Kashtelian have seen time and are combined 3-3 on the season. Kashtelian is 2-0 at Singles #2. Duteil was named ECC Rookie of the Week on Sept. 13. 

Next Match-up: ECC play continues on Friday (Oct. 15) as the Knights go up against St. Thomas Aquinas College at 3 p.m. in Sparkill, N.Y.
