CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y.– After eight straight games of playing as the road team, the Queens College women's soccer team
(3-5-1 overall, 2-3 ECC) were finally able to don the home jersey. But the
homecoming was spoiled at the Susa Orlin & Cohen Sports Complex as the Knights fell 3-0 to the visiting Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks
(3-7-1 overall, 3-3 ECC) Saturday afternoon in East Coast Conference action.
How It Happened
- As the Knights were unable to get past the midfield, the visitors struck first struck as Olivia Grande put her own shot off the rebound past sophomore goalie Ariana Vargas (Brentwood, N.Y.) to give her side a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute.
- Queens would get their first shot attempt in the 13th minute as freshman Julia Ragone (Centereach, N.Y.) shot sailed top right.
- In the 17th minute, freshman Jacklyn Diel (Stony Brook, N.Y.) shot into the bottom left was saved by Redhawks goalie Nicolette Knauf.
- Off a corner kick in the 28th minute sophomore Sara Messemer's (Whitestone, N.Y) shot stayed right of the goal.
- Ragone would one final attempt of the first half in the 44th minute but the Centereach native was unable to put it on goal as the shot sailed left.
- Playing with a depleted roster the Knights were unable to generate the offense needed to attempt a comeback.
- The Redhawks would strike two more times in the second half as the Knights fell 3-0 on the day.
By the Numbers
- Ragone attempted a team-high three shots, while Diel had the lone shot on goal on the day.
- The Knights were outshot 13-8 (5-1 shots on goal).
UP NEXT: On Friday (Oct. 22) the Knights travel to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. with a matchup against Mercy College Mavericks in East Coast Conference. Kickoff slated for 11:00 A.M.
