FLUSHING, N.Y. (Mar. 2, 2020) - The Queens College men's tennis team is hitting all the right notes early in its season; after a spring-opening defeat to Fairleigh Dickinson, the Knights have now won five matches in a row with the team topping Wagner in a 7-0 match on Monday (Mar. 2) at the Queens College Tennis Center.
The Knights won the doubles point after taking the Nos. 2 and 3 tandems over the Seahawks.
Mariano Bibiloni and
Tim Ostheimer won a 6-1 decision at the third-spot while
Lucas Demuth and
Eduardo Marino secured the doubles point with a 6-4 victory over Hans Ohrner and Tejasvi Mehra. Wagner's Omar Loutfy and Dylan Walters claimed a 6-3 win at the top-tandem against QC's
Moritz Borges and
Kareem Rashad to prevent the sweep.
Hugo Evangelista led off singles play with a win at the fifth-flight; the junior---who was leading by a 6-3, 4-1 score in the second set---was the benefactor of an untimely retirement by the Seahawks' Siddharth Anand. After
Julius Schulte claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win over Mohammed Hussain at the No. 6 spot, Bibiloni clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 victory versus Loutfy at fourth-singles. The other three matches proved to be more hard-fought but Queens prevailed in all of them. Rashad won a 6-3, 7-5 first-singles match versus Ohrner as Marino won at third-singles (7-5, 6-3) versus Mehra. Demuth had a marathon match at second-singles against Mehra but prevailed in a 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 decision.
Queens will host Chestnut Hill on Friday (Mar. 6) at 12 p.m.
