FLUSHING, N.Y. (Feb. 9, 2020) - The Queens College women's basketball team was unable to keep a clean game going as the Knights committed 22 turnovers in a 70-51 loss to Daemen on Sunday (Feb. 9) at Fitzgerald Gymnasium in Flushing.
Queens falls to 7-14 on the season with the loss and 4-7 in East Coast Conference play while Daemen improves to 10-1 in league action and 18-3 overall with the victory.
Raiana Brown had a team-high 14 points to go along with six rebounds; the rookie forward, however, was limited to just two points in the second half thanks to suffocating pressure from the Wildcats.
Harmony Philo added 13 points on four three-pointers and a free throw with
Lucy Tougas scoring 11 points and dishing out six assists.
Brianne Moxley and
Chidinma Ndukauba led Queens with nine rebounds apiece.
Tiara Filbert's 19 points were the high mark for Daemen and for the game as the guard also had nine rebounds and six assists. Caroline White added 19 points as well as eight rebounds and Katie Titus had 10 & 9 for the Wildcats in the win.
The Knights trailed by ten points at the halftime break (32-22) but got as close as seven points thanks to a three-pointer by Philo at the midpoint of the third quarter that cut Daemen's lead to a 38-31 margin. The Wildcats finished the period on a 13-6 run and while Queens sliced the deficit to single digits again in the fourth quarter, the visitors finished the game on a 15-5 spurt to close out the contest.
Queens will travel to Rockville Centre on Wednesday (Feb. 12) for a 5:00 p.m. showcase versus Molloy at Quealy Gymnasium.
