FLUSHING, N.Y. (Feb. 13, 2020) - The Queens College men's tennis team put forth a hard-fought battle on Thursday morning (Feb. 13) as the Knights took on the Division I Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson University at the Queens College Tennis Center. Wins in the final three singles matches for QC made the scoreline respectable, but FDU came away with a 4-3 victory in Flushing to send Queens to a season-opening defeat.
Queens was unable to win at any doubles tandem as the duos of
Lucas Demuth and
Moritz Borges and
Tim Ostheimer and
Eduardo Marino both fell by 6-4 scores in their contests. Meanwhile, the top pairing of
Kareem Rashad and
Mariano Bibiloni succumbed to a late rally by Fairleigh Dickinson's Mehdi Dhouib and Niclas Pietsch in a 7-6 (7-4) win for the Division I competitors.
The hosting Knights lost the first three singles matches as well to give FDU the clinching win before holding serve in the final three singles contests. Bibiloni was first to strike for Queens, winning the sixth-flight over Youssef Sader by a 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) margin. Borges followed suit, dispatching Maciej Autuch at No. 5 singles in a three-setter (6-1, 4-6, 6-4) and then Demuth handled Pietsch in a clinical three-setter by scores of 7-6 (10-8), 3-6, 1-0 (10-8).
Queens will return to the courts on Friday (Feb. 14) as the Knights host the Maccabees of Yeshiva University at 12 p.m. in a Division II/III cross-over contest.
