Brown's Double-Double Leads Women's Basketball at Daemen Friday

AMHERST, N.Y. (Jan. 10, 2020) - Rookie forward Raiana Brown achieved another double-double for the Queens College women's basketball team, but the Knights were unable to capitalize on her performance as the squad fell to Daemen by a final score of 89-62 on Friday (Jan. 10) at Lumsden Gymnasium in Amherst, N.Y.

With the loss, Queens fell to 4-10 on the year with a 1-3 record in East Coast Conference play. Daemen improved to 11-3 on the season with a 3-1 record in conference competition.

Brown posted a team-high 17 points with 12 rebounds, shooting 58% (7-of-12) from the field. The North Babylon native also had five blocks in the effort. Meanwhile, junior guard Zorria West accumulated 12 points and six rebounds with two steals. Rookie point guard Tayanee Peay added 11 points while fellow first-years Harmony Philo and Chidinma Ndukauba combined for 17 points off the bench.

Ashli Jeune scored a game-high 27 points for Daemen, hitting seven three-pointers to lead the Wildcats to the win. Katie Titus posted a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds) to add to the account with Tiara Filbert scoring 15 points as well.

The Knights shot 24-for-54 (44%) from the field in the contest but could not keep Daemen from lighting up the scoreboard in the middle two periods. The Wildcats shot 62% (18-29) in the second and third periods and hit 31-of-67 (46%) from the floor overall in the game. Queens was undone by 23 turnovers in the game despite winning the rebounding battle by a 38-33 margin; the hosts scored 32 points off of the QC miscues.

Queens will return to action on Sunday (Jan. 12) at 2 p.m. as the Knights continue their Western New York swing in Rochester against Roberts Wesleyan College.
