Women's Soccer Storms Past Concordia (NY) in 6-2 Triumph Sunday

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Sept. 8, 2019) - After an early free kick goal put them in a 1-0 hole in the game's opening ten minutes, the Queens College women's soccer team turned on the jets and turned out the lights on their opposition by running away with a 6-2 victory over Concordia (NY) on Sunday (Sept. 8) at Knights Field in Flushing.

The victory marks the first win in the era of new Head Women's Soccer Coach Rafael Morais and also saw a scintillating hat trick from senior Guro Eriksen turn the tide in what became a runaway victory.

Knights That Shined
  • The aforementioned hat trick by Eriksen deserves a second look, as the veteran midfielder notched her three-goal outing on just three shots. Brought on in the 26th minute of play, Eriksen did much of her damage in the second half, including scoring two goals in a span of just 37 seconds. Eriksen's volley off a corner kick in the 85th minute capped off the hat trick.
  • Victoria Ramirez assisted on five goals in the contest and Sarafina Smith added two assists in the victory.
  • Synne Flem, Alexis Quealy and Agnes Stanton scored goals in the first half of play for Queens, which took a 3-1 lead into the halftime break.
  • Ariana Vargas and Victoria Castela combined to shut down the Clippers in the win; Vargas recorded a save in 73 minutes of action to earn her first victory while Castela made two saves and kept Concordia out of the net for the final 17 minutes of play.

Up Next on the Docket
