FLUSHING, N.Y. (Sept. 11, 2019) - An early goal by
Victoria Ramirez put the Queens College women's soccer team ahead on Wednesday (Sept. 11) before a pair of markers from visiting Stonehill wiped away the lead and sent the Knights to a 2-1 defeat in Flushing.
Queens falls to 1-2 on the season with the loss while Stonehill improves to 2-1 with the victory.
Knights That Shined
- Ramirez's goal came off a strong counter-attack with Sarafina Smith sending a ball forward to her teammate in a one-on-one situation with Skyhawks goalie Kaitlin Brown. Ramirez then lobbed a shot that was tipped by Brown, but not enough to change the ultimate direction of the attempt as it went into the net.
- Sophomore forward Sarah Marino had a team-high three shots for the Knights while four other players added one shot in the effort.
- Goalie Victoria Castela saved four shots in cage as Stonehill outshot the Knights by an 11-7 margin.
The Final Fifteen
- Stonehill knotted the game up in the 78th minute on a free-kick goal by Kayla Henry to even the match at one-all.
- Set pieces ruled the day for the Skyhawks, as Jenna Nasuti slotted home a goal to Castela's right just a few minutes later off a strong corner kick from Megan Giambanco.
