Second-Half Brace Squelches Home-Opening Vibes for Men's Soccer in Loss to SNHU

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (Sept. 5, 2019) - Forty-five minutes of goalless soccer gave way to a two-goal second half that proved to be the downfall of the Queens College men's soccer team on Thursday (Sept. 5). The Knights yielded a pair of markers to Southern New Hampshire as the Penmen rolled to a 2-0 victory in a chippy and gritty contest at Mitchel Field Athletic Complex in Garden City.

Knights That Shined A Tale of Two Halves
  • The Knights held a 4-3 shots advantage after one half of play with both sides struggling to find good, open opportunities.
  • QC widened its margin with eight shots to Southern New Hampshire's four shots, but the Penmen had the best chances.
  • After Quituizaca's 53rd-minute shot was stopped by SNHU goalie Brian Murray, the Penmen launched a quick counter-attack that ended with Michael Goncalves slotting a shot to the right of Strzelczyk and in the net off the far post.
  • Another counter-attack led to Goncalves feeding Alex Satrustegui on a two-on-one breakway for an easy insurance marker.
Next on the Docket

Queens will look for a quick turn-around and rebound as the Knights welcome Dominican (NY) to Flushing on Saturday (Sept. 7) for a 2 p.m. showcase at Knights Field.
