FLUSHING, N.Y. (Sept. 21, 2019) - The Queens College women's tennis team remained undefeated and perfect in play as the Knights rolled to their third straight 7-0 win on the young season, this time defeating Molloy by that score on Saturday (Sept. 21) at the Queens College Tennis Courts.
The Knights improve to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in East Coast Conference play while Molloy drops to 1-3 and 0-2 in ECC action.
Queens took the doubles point to open the match with a pair of 6-0 victories in tandem-play by second-pairing
Marisa Ostoja and
Anica Knezevic as well as third-team
Gabirela Sciarotta and
Lovisa Engstrand. The top pairing of
Luisa Auffarth and
Maja Makal battled a game group in Molloy's Hannah Niggemeier and Sarah Moehrlein to a 7-6 (7-5) victory to sweep the win in doubles play.
In singles competition, the Knights rolled forward and put the match away early. Ostoja's 6-2, 6-0 win at third-singles started things off while Knezevic took a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at fifth-singles against Briana Gonzalez. Auffarth and Sciarotta only lost one game in their matches at first- and fourth-singles, respectively, while Makal ran off a 6-0, 6-2 win at second-singles.
Mana Koitabashi claimed an 8-1 pro-set win at sixth-singles to complete the overall sweep.
Queens will host Wilmington (Del.) in a battle of two NCAA East Region participants from a season ago on Sunday (Sept. 22) in Flushing at 2 p.m.
