FLUSHING, N.Y. (Sept. 18, 2019) - After nearly one hundred minutes of soccer at Knights Field on Wednesday (Sept. 18),
Victoria Ramirez sent the Queens fans home happy by lobbing a left-footed shot over the reach of Bloomfield keeper Mia Phillip to give the Knights a 1-0 overtime victory in non-conference action.
The goal---which came at the 99:49 mark of play---sent Queens to a 3-2 record, the team's best mark through a five-game stretch since the 2015 season. The visiting Bears, with the loss, fell to 0-5 on the season.
How It Happened
- The contest was not bereft of chances for the Knights, as QC out-shot Bloomfield by a 28-9 margin and also earned ten corner kicks in the game.
- Sara Messemer had the first scoring opportunity for Queens in the third minute of action, but her shot bounced off the left-side post.
- Bloomfield nearly had a winning tally of their own in the 97th minute of play as Glory Amalaha sorted her way through the defense and put a left-footed shot on target, only to have Shenae Kreps stonewall the attempt with a kick save.
- Off of a free kick, Sarah Marino sent the ball towards Ramirez and the senior lofted the winning tally to the top-center region of the net to set off a frenzied celebration.
Knights That Shined
- Ramirez only took one shot in the contest, but it proved to be the winning tally. The goal was her third of the season and she leads the team with 11 total points.
- Guro Eriksen had a team-high seven shots and three targets while Alexis Quealy added five shots of her own in the victory.
- Messemer had four shots and two targets early in the contest to set the tempo of the game for the Knights.
- Kreps made six saves in net to post her second consecutive clean sheet and put the Knights to an above-.500 record.
