FLUSHING, N.Y. (Apr. 22, 2019) – Through the generous donation of Queens College swimming alumna Dina Axelrad Perry '67, the Queens College Athletics and Recreation Department has been able to undergo in-house renovations at Fitzgerald Hall. This re-branding of the "Home of the Knights" has provided a stronger identity to the building and provided a more welcoming appearance for student-athletes and those who enter Fitzgerald Hall on the whole.
The crown jewel of this re-branding has been the re-dedication of the Dina Axlelrad Perry Pool, which was heretofore known as simply the Aquatics Complex or Aquatics Center. The pool was officially designated in honor of Ms. Perry on Apr. 10 in a ceremony on the pool deck itself. The re-christened pool also includes a newly renovated locker room area that is a complete upgrade from the older facility with a brighter and more vibrant space for storing items in lockers as well as private areas for showers and changing facilities as well. These locker rooms are open to the public year-round and provide a safer and more secure environment to benefit all members of the community who wish to make use of these spaces. Moreover, each varsity athletic program will now have their own areas within the confines of the locker rooms to provide a space to leave their belongings and have pregame and post-game meetings.
In addition, the facelift for the "Home of the Knights" has also included the re-branding of the front lobby with all-new signage and refurbished display cases for the Queens College Hall of Fame. Traditions of the past and present are celebrated in the lobby including two new murals: one which showcases the Queens College Athletics logos through the years and one with the QC letter mark in a shield, signifying the armor of the Knight Nation. The new look for the building also includes several new door wraps to clearly identify key points in the gymnasium including the athletic office, summer camp office, pool balcony and fitness center. Finally, new door wraps have also been installed at the points of entry and egress for the athletic gymnasiums that signify the pride and passion, tradition and excellence of the Queens College Athletics and Recreation Department.
