FLUSHING, N.Y. (Mar. 8, 2019) - The Queens College women's tennis team earned just one point in fifth-singles as the Knights were defeated on Friday (Mar. 8) by Fordham in a 6-1 decision at the Queens College Tennis Center.
The Knights (10-3) fell behind early after getting swept in doubles play. Fordham (5-6) earned a 6-2 win at third-doubles with Alexis Zobeideh and Whitney Weisberg prevailing over
Marisa Ostoja and
Line Sorsdahl Aasen. The Rams then claimed a 6-4 win at the top tandem with Arina Taluyenko and Tatiana Grigoryan securing the match over
Reehan Rashad and
Luisa Auffarth. QC's second team of
Louisa Brunetti and
Anica Knezevic were beaten by a 6-3 score against Fordham's Nicole Li and Genevieve Quenville.
In singles play, only
Laura Ortega Jover notched a victory for the Knights as her 6-3, 6-3 win at fifth-singles over Zobeideh prevented the shutout. Unfortunately, Ortega Jover's win came when the match was already decided as Fordham had claimed four other singles matches to earn the overall win.
Queens will host Butler University on Mar. 22 in its next match at the QC Tennis Center with first serve scheduled for 6 p.m.
