FLUSHING, N.Y. (Mar. 22, 2019) - The Queens College women's tennis team held on to an early lead after claiming the doubles point to outlast Division I Butler by a 4-3 score on Friday (Mar. 22) at the Queens College Tennis Center.
The Knights were victorious in doubles play as QC took triumphs in the second- and third-tandems of action.
Louisa Brunetti and
Anica Knezevic collected a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles over Lauryn Padgett and Nina Bertino while
Marisa Ostoja and
Laura Ortega Jover overpowered Butler's Kendal Wilby and Caroline McCauley by a 6-1 score at the third-tandem.Â
Brunetti and
Luisa Auffarth had the easiest time at singles play, relatively speaking, as both players won their matches for Queens in straight sets. Auffarth, at the second-flight, overwhelmed Sara Linn by a 6-0, 6-2 score while Brunetti earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over Padgett at fourth singles. The Knights would not get the deciding win, however, until Ortega Jover's 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win at No. 5 over McCauley; each remaining singles match favored Butler in three sets.
Queens will continue its season on Saturday (Mar. 23) with a 6 p.m. tilt versus Fairleigh Dickinson University at the QC Tennis Center.
