DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Mar. 22, 2019) - On a cold and blustery Friday (Mar. 22) afternoon, the Queens College baseball team took to Mercy Field to face the Mavericks in the East Coast Conference-opening contest for both teams. Queens would jump out to an early lead, but it was the hosts that claimed the victory after nine innings; Mercy won a 5-3 contest to take the series opener.
Reigning ECC Player of the Week
Eric Roubal got things going for the Knights with an RBI single in the top of the first inning, plating
Louis Antos with the game's first run. Mercy responded with two runs in the bottom of the first off of
Dylan Hughes as John Mooradian and Adonis Garcia both collected RBI singles. Mooradian scored another RBI single in the bottom of the second inning to double Mercy's lead to a 3-1 margin. QC got a run back in the top of the third inning as
Joe O'Rourke drove in
Ron Linsalato on a single down the left-field line, but Hughes walked in a run in the bottom of the inning to keep Mercy ahead by a 4-2 score. Both teams plated an additional run in the seventh inning as well.
Linsalato had two hits for the Knights as did O'Rourke, but only five other Queens batters collected hits in the contest. Hughes took the loss after yielding four runs and nine hits over his three innings of work.
Queens and Mercy resume the ECC series on Saturday (Mar. 23) at Knights Field with the first contest slated for 12 p.m.
