FLUSHING, N.Y. (Mar. 10, 2019) - The Queens College women's lacrosse team yielded 11 first-half goals to Wilmington (Del.) as the Wildcats powered through to an 18-6 victory over the Knights on Saturday (Mar. 10) at the WU Athletics Complex in Wilmington.
Sarah Koehler led the Knights (0-2) with three goals on the afternoon with
Chloe Herzog adding two markers and
Lauren Gentile tacking on a goal as well.
Nicole Cutrone contributed two assists as well for Queens in the loss. Jess Serpe had ten saves in the cage on the day for the Knights.
Lashay Ross (five goals, two assists) led the offense for Wilmington with Maddie Day scoring four goals in the victory for the hosts. Delaney Steele added a goal and four assists while Brooke Siebert posted a hat trick and an assist in a four-point outing.
Wilmington scored the first goal of the afternoon just ten seconds into the game as Day took the opening draw and rifled home a shot to put the Wildcats ahead. The hosts never trailed as Ross scored her first goal to give WU a 2-0 lead before Koehler struck back with QC's first marker just five minutes into play. After Ross and Koehler traded goals to make the score 3-2, Wilmington scored eight of the next ten goals to grab an insurmountable lead. The Wildcats also ran off six straight goals in the second half to complete the victory.
Queens will play on Tuesday (Mar. 12) at home against Caldwell University at 3 p.m.
