FLUSHING, N.Y. (Mar. 1, 2019) - The Queens College women's tennis team commenced its spring campaign on Friday (Mar. 1) by hosting LIU Brooklyn at the QC Tennis Center. Unfortunately, the Knights would not pick up the victory as the Division I Blackbirds earned a 5-2 triumph in Flushing.
Queens won points in third-singles and fourth-singles;
Louisa Brunetti continued her strong form with a 6-4, 6-4 win against Sasha Bollweg in the third flight as
Laura Ortega Jover battled to a 7-5, 7-6 (10-8) win in the fourth. The Knights were unsuccessful in the other four flights, falling in straight sets to LIU Brooklyn despite a gutsy sixth-singles effort from
Line Sorsdahl Aasen in a 3-6, 6-7 loss to Ana Leonte.
QC was swept in doubles as well, with
Luisa Auffarth and
Reehan Rashad dropping a 7-5 decision to Leonte and Anna Grigoryan at the top tandem. Brunetti and
Anica Knezevic were unable to score the win in second-doubles, falling to Bollweg and Jessica Brzozowska by a 6-4 margin.Â
Queens will continue its season on Friday (Mar. 8) with an 11 a.m. match-up against Fordham University at the QC Tennis Center.
