FLUSHING, N.Y. (Feb. 8, 2019) - The area behind the arc was at its most unkind Friday night (Feb. 8) as the Queens College men's basketball team went just 4-for-22 from downtown in a 62-45 loss to Roberts Wesleyan at Fitzgerald Gymnasium.
Queens (6-16, 6-6 ECC) had its poorest three-point shooting performance since opening the calendar year hitting just 1-for-15 from beyond the line versus Merrimack on Jan. 5.
Elijah Bovell led the Knights with 12 points, going 5-for-9 off the bench but the rest of the team combined to shoot 10-for-42 from the floor in the loss.
Wayne Li put forth a nice effort with eight points and seven rebounds but had no answer in the low blocks for Armon Nasseri, whose game-high 18 points led Roberts (10-9, 6-5 ECC) to the victory. Peyton McLaurin added 11 points for the Redhawks, as well.
The teams got off to a slow start in the opening half, as the Knights clawed their way to a 21-16 lead at the mid-point of the first half on a three-ball by Bovell. After Roberts Wesleyan took the lead back on a lay-up by Michael Bush with under seven minutes to go, Bovell and
Shomari Redd hit buckets to give QC a 27-26 advantage. Bovell's jumper with four minutes left in the half was the last bucket that the Knights would hit in the period as McLaurin and Nasseri led a 6-0 run to close out the period with the visitors up 32-27.
The Knights rallied back on an 11-6 run to tie the score at 38-all with eight minutes gone by in the second half, but Roberts Wesleyan ended the game on a 24-7 spurt. Queens went just 1-for-11 from the field over the final twelve minutes of play.
Queens will host conference front-runner Daemen on Sunday (Feb. 10) at Fitzgerald Gymnasium with tip-off set for 3:30 p.m.
