West Leads Women's Basketball with 16 Points Versus AIC Wednesday

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (Dec. 4, 2019) – Junior guard Zorria West had a team-high 16 points for the Queens College women's basketball team as the Knights fell in non-conference play to American International College on Wednesday (Dec. 4) by a final count of 64-50.

The Knights are now 1-7 on the season while the host Yellow Jackets improved to 3-4 with the win at Bulova Gymnasium.

West also led the Knights with six rebounds and four assists on the evening, shooting 5-of-12 from the floor and adding a near-perfect night from the free throw line (6-7). Freshman center Raiana Brown recovered from a slow start to score 12 points while Tayanee Peay and Chidinma Ndukauba both collected six points off the bench.

Rashana Siders poured in a game-high 21 points for AIC with Destine Perry adding 12 off the bench in the win for the Yellow Jackets.

Queens opened the contest with the game's first six points with West connecting on two buckets to close out the 6-0 run. The Knights led 12-6 after one quarter with both teams combining to go 7-for-16 from the field in the opening frame. QC's largest lead of the contest came in the second quarter with an Ndukauba fast-break lay-up giving the visitors an 18-9 lead just past the midpoint of the stanza but AIC went on an 11-5 run to close out the opening frame trailing the Knights by a 22-21 score.

A 7-2 run from the hosts gave the Yellow Jackets their first lead of the contest at 28-24 midway through the third quarter; that advantage would remain through the rest of the penultimate period as the hosts held a 40-35 edge going into the fourth quarter. Queens cut the deficit to one point in the final frame of regulation on buckets by Ndukauba and Brianne Moxley, but Siders scored seven of the Yellow Jackets' final points to put the contest away.

The Knights will next be in action on Saturday (Dec. 7), hosting Concordia College at 2 p.m. at Fitzgerald Gymnasium.
