Gabel Paces Women's Basketball in Conference Showcase Against Molloy

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Dec. 14, 2019) – In what proved to be a low-scoring contest, the Queens College women's basketball team was held to just 16 first-half points as the Knights fell to Molloy by a final score of 57-39 on Saturday (Dec. 14) at Lucille Kyvallos Court at Fitzgerald Gymnasium.

Queens is now 3-8 on the year and 1-1 in ECC play while Molloy improved to 9-3 on the season and 2-0 in conference games.

Nora Gabel led the Knights with 12 points on a 5-of-8 shooting performance from the field while Zorria West contributed a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double for QC in the effort. Chidinma Ndukauba had four points and eight rebounds off the bench.

Kathryn Gibson scored 13 of her game-high 15 points in the first half for Molloy with Kadijah Dickson adding 14 points in the effort for the Lions. Robyn Francis poured in 12 with seven rebounds while Giolibeth Perez had 13 boards and six assists.

Molloy opened the contest with the first five points as Dickson and Gibson knocked down shots on back-to-back possessions; Gibson's make was a three-pointer, one of three for her in the opening half. The Knights did not take their first lead until the second quarter on a lay-up by Ndukauba off a fancy fake-out feed from Lucy Tougas. That gave QC a 14-13 lead with two minutes gone by in the period but Jenna Silletti's three-pointer on the next possession put Molloy back in front and kick-started a 14-2 run that closed out the half with the Lions up by a 27-16 score.

Molloy shot 50% (9-18) from the field in the third quarter, utilizing an 18-7 stretch to take a 45-23 lead into the final period of play and the Knights were unable to keep pace as the game concluded.

Queens will close out the 2019 calendar year with a 1 p.m. match next Saturday (Dec. 21) against Bridgeport at Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium in Connecticut.
