FLUSHING, N.Y. (Nov. 6, 2019) - Freshman forward
Milton Sionakides scored his second goal in the last three games for the Queens College men's soccer team but the Knights were defeated in a 4-1 match with Division II independent Salem University (W. Va.) on Wednesday (Nov. 6) at Knights Field.
Salem improved to 8-9-1 while Queens fell to 6-6-3, wrapping up its non-conference slate at 3-3-2 for the 2019 fall campaign.
How It Happened
- The Tigers struck quickly in the game's first ninety seconds as Brandon Sinclair re-directed a blocked shot past the reach of QC goalie Joseph Weinstein to put the visitors ahead by a 1-0 margin; this would be the halftime score as well.
- Not bereft of chances, Queens nearly had a goal off a free kick as Rudi Ibrahim sent a high, arcing effort towards goal as Salem keeper Wiktor Stawski battled a setting sun in Flushing to make the save in the 55th minute.
- Five minutes later, Dean William Davies beat Weinstein on a header for one of his two goals in the second-half to put the Tigers up for good.
- Sionakides' goal came on a re-direct in the 72nd minute but Salem scored two more goals in the next three minutes to coast to the win.
Knights That Shined
- The Knights out-shot the opposition by a 16-8 margin in the contest with Sionakides being one of three players to put three attempts towards goal. Romario Hulea had two targets in the effort.
- Weinstein made a pair of saves in net for the Knights, as well.
