OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Nov. 2, 2019) - The Queens College men's soccer team got a huge victory on Saturday (Nov. 2) to keep their dreams of returning to the East Coast Conference Tournament alive as the Knights used two first-half goals to outlast New York Tech in a 2-1 decision at President's Stadium in Old Westbury.
The Knights improved to 6-5-3 with the win and 3-3-1 in ECC play while New York Tech concluded its conference season with a 4-4 mark and a 6-10 record overall.
Kevin Quituizaca and
Milton Sionakides scored the goals for QC in the opening half. Quituizaca's 17th-minute goal put the Knights on the board while Sionakides converted on a pass from
Paul Hayes in the late stages of the half to give Queens the insurance marker. New York Tech sliced the lead in half on a 65th-minute tally from Telmo Prego, but the Bears could not equalize despite many golden chances to do so. Bernd Schluter's last-second shot at the gun was blocked away to help the Knights preserve the 2-1 win.
Marek Strzelczyk made four saves in net for Queens to earn the victory.
With a 3-3-1 record in conference play, the Knights sit on the outside looking in of the ECC post-season picture as the team heads towards its final conference game against Molloy on Saturday (Nov. 9) at 2 p.m. Prior to this, however, the Knights will welcome Salem University (WV) to Flushing for a 2:30 p.m. contest on Wednesday (Nov. 6).
