FLUSHING, N.Y. (Oct. 9, 2019) - Sophomore forward
Alexis Quealy volleyed home a 60th-minute cross to put the Queens College women's soccer team ahead to stay as the Knights came away with a 2-1 victory over Wilmington (Del.) on Wednesday (Oct. 9) at Knights Field in Flushing.
Queens improved to 6-5 overall on the season with the win while Wilmington fell to 3-6-1 in the 2019 season.
How It Happened
- The game began under auspicious circumstances as the field was soaked by rain that had fallen for most of the morning into the mid-afternoon.
- Queens out-shot Wilmington in the first half-hour of play by a 5-2 margin, but it was the Knights' sixth shot that resulted in a goal.
- Following a long ball played towards Wilmington's goal that was aided by a fierce wind, the Wildcats' defense turned the ball over in the 18-yard box and Victoria Ramirez capitalized with a goal to put QC ahead by a 1-0 margin.
- Wilmington responded with a goal in the 58th-minute thanks to a cross from Jessica Unsihuay to a sliding Emily Navarrete from close range to equalize the game.
- Queens responded moments later with Quealy's right-footed shot sneaking inside the near post to beat Wilmington goalie Emily Camp and put the Knights ahead for good. The sophomore's goal came off a cross by Agnes Stanton with Shannon Gibbons recording an assist on the initial throw-in as well.
- Wilmington had several chances late but could not score the game-tying goal as the buzzer sounded.
Knights That Shined
- Ramirez's four shots and four targets propelled the Knights to a 14-12 shots advantage. Stanton also added four shots on the day.
- Guro Eriksen added two shots and Shenae Kreps continued her stellar play in net with four saves in the victory.

Queens will look for its first conference win of the 2019 season on Saturday (Oct. 12) as the Knights welcome Daemen into Flushing for a 12 p.m. contest.
