Women's Soccer Plays Strong Defensive Game Versus Daemen Saturday

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Oct. 12, 2019) - A mostly even match-up was undone by one goal late in the first half as the Queens College women's soccer team could not equalize and fell by a 1-0 score to Daemen on Saturday (Oct. 12) at Knights Field.

Queens falls to 6-6 overall and 0-3 in East Coast Conference play with the loss while Daemen improves to 8-1-2 and 2-1-1 in ECC action.

How It Happened
  • The Knights had several great chances in the first fifteen minutes but could not get any on target as Victoria Ramirez and Guro Eriksen had opportunities go by the wayside.
  • Shannon Gibbons put QC's first shot on goal in the 20th-minute but her effort was saved by Daemen keeper Maddie Flores.
  • The Wildcats got the game's only goal just before halftime as Grace Stranahan sent a pass to Elise Williams for the timely marker. Williams' shot slid just to the left of goalie Shenae Kreps to put the visitors ahead.
  • The Knights would only obtain one more shot on target in the contest as Ramirez struck for a shot in the 74th-minute that was again denied by Flores.
Knights That Shined
  • Ramirez had three of the Knights' eight shots in the contest; Eriksen and Gibbons combined for four others.
  • Alexis Quealy also had a shot for QC in the contest.
  • Kreps continued her solid play in the cage with four saves.
