Quituizaca Scores Goal Late for Men's Soccer in ECC Tilt with Roberts Wesleyan

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Oct. 5, 2019) - A two-goal rally by the Queens College men's soccer team in the second half could not completely shore up a three-goal first half from Roberts Wesleyan as the Redhawks escaped with a 3-2 victory on Saturday (Oct. 5) in an East Coast Conference bout in Rochester.

Queens falls to 3-4-1 overall and 0-2 in ECC play with the loss while Roberts improves to 5-4-1 with the win and 2-0 in conference competition.

How It Happened
  • It did not happen quickly but Roberts Wesleyan grabbed a 3-0 lead going into the halftime break thanks to a pair of goals from Dylan Ruiz and a marker by Terrell Spencer.
  • Queens would not break the shutout until the 78th-minute when Emgi Gousse scored on a penalty-kick marker to bring the Knights within a 3-1 deficit.
  • Kevin Quituizaca added a goal with sixteen seconds remaining to bring the Knights within a one-goal deficit, but there just was not enough time on the clock to get the tying score.
Knights That Shined
  • In addition to his goal, Gousse led the team with six total shots and three attempts on target in the contest.
  • The Knights peppered the Redhawks with a 22-12 advantage in shots; Quituizaca had three attempts while four players each made two efforts towards goal.
  • Goalie Marek Strzelczyk had three saves in the effort for Queens.
Up Next on the Docket

Queens will return home to face Daemen College on Saturday (Oct. 12) as part of an East Coast Conference doubleheader with kick-off set for 3 p.m.
