Eriksen and Quealy Combine For Six Shots as Women's Soccer Battles Roberts Wesleyan Saturday

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Oct. 5, 2019) - The Queens College women's soccer team could not overcome an early goal from Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday (Oct. 5) as the Redhawks took care of the Knights in a 3-0 ECC victory at the Soccer Stadium in Rochester.

Queens fell to 4-6 overall with the defeat and 0-2 in East Coast Conference play while the host Redhawks improved to a 5-2-1 overall record with a 1-0-1 mark in league action with the victory.

How It Happened
  • Roberts Wesleyan had the first shot of the contest as Genevieve Palmer lofted an effort in the eleventh minute toward the QC net. Goalie Shenae Kreps was up to the task on the save and QC countered with a shot on the other end of the field sixty seconds later. The effort by senior forward Victoria Ramirez was turned aside by Redhawks keeper Kelsey Brinkel.
  • In the seventeenth minute of play, Palmer beat Kreps for the game's first goal on an assist by Taylor Rutland. This would be the only shot for almost twenty minutes as Roberts held a 1-0 lead. Guro Eriksen came up with QC's other good chance in the first half, but Brinkel parried her effort away in the 36th minute.
  • The Redhawks tacked on insurance markers in the 77th and 81st minutes, respectively, to put the game on ice.
Knights That Shined
  • Eriksen had a team-high four shots and shared the lead in targets (two) with sophomore forward Alexis Quealy. Ramirez and Jennifer Hernandez took the other two shots in the contest for Queens.
  • QC was out-shot by a 10-8 margin but only yielded three corner kicks while taking two set-pieces from the corner flag. Kreps, meanwhile, had five saves for the Knights in net.
Up Next on the Docket

Queens will return home on Wednesday (Oct. 9) for a 3 p.m. non-conference match-up against Wilmington (Del.) at Knights Field. This will mark the final contest for the Knights outside of East Coast Conference competition, as the final seven matches of the year will be against league opponents.
