Villalta's Four Shots Lead Men's Soccer Against STAC Saturday

SPARKILL, N.Y. (Oct. 26, 2019) - An early goal from the host Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas put the Queens College men's soccer team in a quick hole that the Knights were unable to surmount as STAC defeated QC by a 3-0 score on Saturday (Oct. 26) at Spartan Field in Sparkill.

The Knights fall to 5-5-3 on the season with the loss and 2-3-1 in East Coast Conference play with the defeat while St. Thomas Aquinas wins its third consecutive game and is now 3-9-1 overall and 2-5 in conference contests.

How It Happened
  • STAC struck for the game's opening marker in the sixth minute as Jorge Mazariego put home a rebound after a shot by Amaan Aslam was parried by Marek Strzelczyk but not to safety.
  • The Spartans' defense held firm as Queens would not put a shot on target until the 55th minute of play when Romario Hulea attempted to equalize the contest only to be stopped by Spartans goalie Cameron Turner.
  • Mazariego would get his second goal of the game with under twenty minutes to play in the contest and STAC added a penalty-kick marker in the 82nd minute to produce the final margin.
Knights That Shined
  • Cristian Villalta had four total shots in the game to lead the Knights.
  • Queens out-shot the opposition by a 14-12 margin with Emgi Gousse also adding three attempts in the effort.
  • Strzelczyk made three saves in net on the contest for the Knights.
Up Next on the Docket
Queens will make its final road contest of the year on Saturday (Nov. 2) as the Knights head to New York Tech for an 11 a.m. showcase in Old Westbury.
