Men's Soccer Dominates 1-1 Draw with Holy Family Wednesday

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Oct. 23, 2019) - Freshman forward Milton Sionakides put the Queens College men's soccer team ahead in the first half of its Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 23) game with Holy Family University, but the Knights allowed the equalizing goal in the second half and ended the contest in a 1-1 deadlock with the Tigers at Knights Field.

Queens is now 5-4-3 on the season while Holy Family's record sits at 7-6-1.

How It Happened
  • The Knights used a 33-8 shots advantage to control the pace of play and the offense in the game against the Tigers.
  • Cristian Villalta had the game's opening shot in the second minute but it was stopped by Holy Family goalie Ryan Stock.
  • QC finally broke through in the 37th-minute on a corner kick as Sionakides redirected a failed clearance by the Tigers' defense into the lower left corner for the game's first goal.
  • Queens continued to put pressure on the opposition and pepper the attacking end with shots as Kevin Quituizaca had a good look in the 63rd-minute that was corralled by Stock.
  • Holy Family utilized a strong push on a counter-attack as Dakota Taylor finished a right-footed attempt past Marek Strzelczyk and into the net for the equalizing goal.
  • The Tigers had the best chance of the first overtime period as Georg Montag bent a dangerous free kick towards the near post that Strzelczyk somehow managed to parry away from net.
  • Rudi Ibrahim nearly had the winner from distance in the second extra session as his free kick from the defensive side of the field caught a gust of wind and a high bounce, forcing Stock to make a fingertip save as the Knights and Tigers would not have any more strong chances.
Knights That Shined
  • Quituizaca nearly out-shot Holy Family all by himself as the senior posted seven attempts in the contest with Sionakides making six efforts as well.
  • Leo Pinto added four shots in the game as Romario Hulea also contributed with five shots and two targets in the draw.
  • Strzelczyk posted four saves in net for the Knights in the contest.
Up Next on the Docket

Queens returns to East Coast Conference play on Saturday (Oct. 26) as the Knights head up to Sparkill, N.Y. to face St. Thomas Aquinas in a 2 p.m. contest.
