Women's Soccer Keeps Pace with Defending National Champion Bridgeport Saturday

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Oct. 19, 2019) - The Queens College women's soccer team played nearly a perfect ninety minutes on Saturday (Oct. 19) before a late-stage marker by Bridgeport propelled the Purple Knights to a 1-0 victory in an East Coast Conference match-up at Knights Field.

The loss dropped Queens to a 7-7 record and a 1-4 mark in ECC play while Bridgeport---the 2018 NCAA Division II National Champions---improved to a 7-5-1 record and a perfect 5-0 in conference competition.

How It Happened
  • It was an 84th-minute tally by Rebekka Skaasheim off an assist by Maegen Doyle that saw Bridgeport break a scoreless contest and claim the victory.
  • Though out-shot by a 14-12 margin, QC put more shots on goal (7-5) than the competition.
Knights That Shined
  • Shannon Gibbons put all four of her shot attempts on target in the effort but each effort was parried by UB keeper Helena Dahlstrom.
  • Alexis Quealy and Victoria Ramirez combined for five total shots in the contest as well.
  • The defense was led by goalie Shenae Kreps, who made four saves in cage for the Knights.
Up Next on the Docket

Queens will travel up to Sparkill, N.Y. on Saturday (Oct. 26) for an 11 a.m. match-up with St. Thomas Aquinas as the Knights begin the home-stretch of conference season.
