Men's Soccer Scores Five in First Half En Route to 7-3 Thrashing of UDC

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Oct. 16, 2019) - Vitor Gomes's goal in the sixth minute put the University of the District of Columbia ahead by a 1-0 margin over the Queens College men's soccer team on Wednesday (Oct. 16). However, the Knights would surmount the early offense from the Firebirds and score five unanswered goals in the opening half to run away with a 7-3 victory in an East Coast Conference midweek matinee.

The Knights improved to 5-4-1 on the season and 2-2 in ECC action while District of Columbia fell to 4-8 on the year and 2-2 in conference competition.

Knights That Shined
  • Romario Hulea and Kevin Quituizaca each scored a pair of goals in the five-goal rally after Cristian Villalta had a goal in the ninth minute to equalize the contest.
  • UDC rallied for two goals in the second half but Emgi Gousse put the game away with a strike in the 70th-minute of the game.
  • Queens out-shot the Firebirds by a 21-13 margin, but the Knights were extremely accurate with their shots (14-4 on target).
  • Villalta's eight shots led the Knights in the win while goalie Marek Strzelczyk made just one save but came away with the victory thanks to a strong offensive output.
