Women's Tennis Stays Unbeaten with 7-0 Victory over Roberts Wesleyan

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Oct. 11, 2019) - The Queens College women's tennis team played an all-around contest with almost every member of the roster featuring in some capacity as the Knights rolled to a 7-0 victory over Roberts Wesleyan Friday (Oct. 11) at the Queens College Tennis Center.

Queens improved to 5-0 on the season with the win and remained perfect in conference play, boosting its mark in ECC matches to 3-0. Roberts Wesleyan fell to 3-4, 0-3 in ECC action.

The Knights began the day with doubles domination as the tandem of Araceli Bel Aleixendri and Gabriela Sciarotta yielded no ground in the No. 3 match, defeating the Redhawks' duo of Sophie Farnholz and Charity Hinman by a 6-0 score. QC clinched the doubles point at the top-tandem with Louisa Brunetti and Lovisa Engstrand claiming a 6-2 win against Bijisha Shrestha and Salome Darsalia. The second-doubles match went unfinished with Marisa Ostoja and Aleksandra Caricic locked in a 4-4 battle with Laura Freeman and Carolyn Graham.

QC then shifted into overdrive in singles play with three matches going the Knights' way via shutout. Sciarotta earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at sixth-singles over Hinman to kick things off; just one court away, Mana Koitabashi posted a 6-0, 6-1 win against Farnholz in flight number five. Luisa Auffarth and Maja Makal finished off 6-0, 6-0 matches almost simultaneously at first- and second-singles, respectively. At third-singles, Anica Knezevic won a 6-0, 6-1 match against Darsalia and Caricic's 6-3, 6-0 victory versus Graham in the fourth-flight sealed the overall shutout for the Knights.
