Gousse Brace Pushes Men's Soccer Past Concordia

Box Score

FLUSHING, N.Y. - In bright sunny conditions, freshman Emgi Gousse notched two goals in the Queens College men's soccer team's 4-1 victory over the Clippers of Concordia College (N.Y.) Thursday afternoon. The Knights have opened up the young season with a 1-0-2 record, one of the best starts in recent history.

Gousse registered his first goal of the match fashionably quick with a through ball from senior Brian Belfont as he rocketed a shot 20 yards out into the left corner to give the Knights a lead in the opening six minutes of the match. Senior Nicholas Matusewicz followed shortly as he opened his account with a shot to the far right side of the net to hand the Knights a two goal lead heading into the half. Queens controlled the first half as they registered eight shots to Concordia's three, while the Clippers tallied five corners.

Early in the second half, the clippers cut the deficit to one as Ovan Oakley headed a goal into the left post corner off a corner kick by Freedy Nava. Not looking to undo their hard work despite controlling the game, Gousee scored his second goal of the match in the 73rd minute with a shot into the left far post to double the Knights advantage to 3-1. Classmate Michael Gino scored his first goal in Knights colors in the 77th minute giving Queens a comfortable 4-1 win.

Queens senior goalie James Brostowski (1-0-1) had minimal work on the pitch as he only faced three shots on goals.  On the opposite side with the Knights threatening throughout the game, goalie Mario Lamacchia  (0-1-0) had a tough day facing seven shots on goals, while saving three. The Knights held the advantage in shots (14-6), while the Clippers led in corner kicks (9-3) and fouls (10-9).

UP NEXT: Continuing their non-conference schedule, the Knights (1-0-2) lace 'em up Saturday, Sept. 10th as they face the visiting Purple Knights of St. Michaels College (2-0) with kick off at 11:30 AM.
