Queens MBB Stretches Winning Streak To Four

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. - Junior Diego Maldonado scored a career-high 26 points as the Queens College men's basketball team topped Molloy 84-81 in East Coast Conference action Thursday evening.  The Knights have won four games in a row, and sit at 7-9 in league play.

Playing all 40 minutes, Maldonado shot 8-for-13 from the field, and an efficient 8-for-10 from the line in the game.  Senior Travis Whitfield scored 18 points, notching his sixth double-digit scoring effort in the last eight games.  Junior Tyree White finished three boards shy of a triple-double, finishing with 16 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds and six steals.  Senior Mohamed Dansoko scored 10 points in the contest.

Both squads clicked offensively in the contest, as the Knights shot a season best 58.3% from the field, while the Lions connected on 45.6% of their attempts.  QC also shot 46.7% from behind the line, and 87.5% from the charity stripe.  Queens held a 40-22 advantage on points in the paint, while Molloy's reserves outscored the Knights' bench 23-6.

The Knights never trailed in the contest, and jumped out to a 21-3 lead in the opening period with 14:21 remaining in the frame.  Queens' lead dwindled to two, 31-29, after a 26-10 charge by the home team.

From there, QC closed the half out on a 22-13 run that gave the Knights a 53-42 lead at half.  In the second half, Molloy got within four, before closing the deficit to two with 13 seconds remaining.  The Knights held on as junior Kyheim Chaplin knocked down a free throw with four seconds left.

Charlie Marquardt scored 24 points for the Lions, while Brandon Williams contributed 22 points.  QC is back in action Thursday evening against Dowling (5:30 pm).
