Strong Second Half Propels WBB To Win Over LIU Post

FLUSHING, N.Y. - Trailing by two at half, the Queens College women's basketball team scored 42 second half points and rolled to a 67-50 win over LIU Post Saturday in East Coast Conference action at Fitzgerald Gymnasium.  The Knights, 13-8 on the season, hold an impressive 6-3 mark at home this season.

Junior Madison Rowland finished with a game high 25 points for the Knights, and added 13 rebounds, four steals and three blocks to her ledger on the day.  Sophomore Merrick Rowland contributed 15 points and four rebounds in the contest as well.

The Knights shot 38.3% from the field, and got to the line 27 times, connecting on 18 attempts.  QC forced LIU Post into 25 turnovers, resulting in 36 points for the Knights.  Queens also held a 14-2 advantage in fast break points.

With QC ahead 22-16, with 7:19 left in the second quarter, the Pioneers ended the opening half on an 11-3 run, taking a 27-25 lead into intermission.  After LIU Post scored the first points of the second half, Queens answered with a 12-0 run, taking an 37-29 lead with 3:20 left in the third quarter.

The Knights posted their first double digit lead of the game with 49 seconds left in the third, before grabbing their biggest lead of the game, 55-35, with 6:58 left in the game.

Khea Gibbs led LIU Post with 13 points.  QC is back in action Tuesday evening at Molloy (5:00 pm).
