Box Score FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Queens College volleyball team dropped a four-set match to Molloy Wednesday evening at FitzGerald Gymnasium. Set scores were 26-24, 17-25, 25-19 and 27-25. The Knights now stand at 3-12 overall on the year, and 1-4 in league action.
Sophomore Nicoletta DiCocco led the Knights with 12 kills, while senior Tori Bowser posted a .280 hitting percentage and finished with 11 kills. Junior Kristen Moore posted 37 kills and seven digs, along with four blocks. Junior Ragina Anthony was credited with 18 digs in a contest in which the Knights additionally tallied 14 aces.
In the opening set, QC found itself in an early 6-3 hole. A strong run by the Knights on serves by sophomore Malaika Hollis turned an 8-5 deficit into and a 12-8 lead. Later in the frame, Queens held a 23-22 advantage, before a pair of Lions points put them at match point. An attacking error evened the match at 24 before a pair of kills by Molloy gave the visitors the first set.
In the second set, the Knights swung the momentum when they turned a 12-10 deficit into a 16-12 lead. QC never trailed after that point and ran away with the eight-point victory.
Similar to the first two sets, Molloy jumped out to an early third set advantage, taking a 7-2 lead on a kill by Danielle Williams. The Lions took their biggest lead of the set at 18-8 on a kill by Devon Hagerstrom. Facing set point, QC closed the deficit to five (24-19) before a kill by Shannon Wren gave Molloy a 2-1 lead in the match.
In the fourth set, a QC error gave Molloy a quick 8-3 advantage. Queens countered with a 6-4 surge of its own, cutting the margin to three (12-9). The Lions gained control of the set with their own 6-4 run. Later in the set, the Knights trimmed a four-point deficit to even the match at 24. Molloy then put the match away with kills by Williams and Reinis.
Williams posted a 15 kill effort for Molloy, to go along with 14 digs. Sophia Smither registered 36 assists, while Dakota O'Neill fielded 17 digs.
