Rowland Scores 27 Points In Setback At NYIT

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - Junior guard Madison Rowland scored 27 points in the Queens College women's basketball team's 65-60 loss to NYIT Wednesday evening in East Coast Conference action.  The contest's turning point came in the Bears' 24 point fourth quarter.

The Knights held an early five point lead, before NYIT grabbed a 10-8 lead with 3:41 left in the opening frame.  QC scored five of the last six points in the quarter, taking a 13-11 lead after the first quarter.  Each squad scored 14 points in the second quarter, as the Knights held a 27-25 advantage at half.

After the Bears took a three point lead, 30-27, a 14-6 run by the visitors pushed QC ahead 41-36 on a layup by Rowland with 3:09 left in the third.  The Knights would extend the cushion to 47-41, entering the fourth.

With QC leading 51-44, NYIT answered with a 15-6 run, taking a 59-57 lead with 1:51 left that gave the home team the advantage for good.  The Knights were held scoreless for the remainder of the game until Rowland's three pointer with two seconds left.

NYIT was led by Dina Ragab's 22 points and Julie Williams' 16 points.  The Knights are back in action Saturday at LIU Post.
