Box Score QUEENS, N.Y. - Red-shirt senior MacKenzie Rowland became the newest member of the 1000 career point club as she tallied 16 points and 12 rebounds in the Queens College women's basketball team's 59-41 victory over Mercy Saturday afternoon.
Junior Madison Rowland posted 15 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and five steals in the contest as the Knights won their sixth straight contest and pushed their record to 11-6 on the year, and 8-3 in league play. Queens held Mercy to a 25.9% effort from the field, while the Knights connected on 35.3% of their attempts.
After surrendering the first basket of the game, the Knights responded with a 15-1 run to take a 15-3 lead with 4:09 left in the first quarter. The Knights built the advantage to 14, before a 5-0 charge by the Mavericks cut the lead to 10, 22-12, after one quarter. Queens started the second quarter with a 9-4 run to increase the lead to 15, 31-16, and then headed into half with a 38-23 advantage.
After a 5-0 run by Mercy, the Knights ended the charge with a 15-4 run to build a 53-32 lead after three quarters of play. Queens held a 60-34 advantage in rebounds, resulting in a 26-4 margin in second chance points. Led by Mac. Rowland, QC also held a 42-16 advantage in points in the paint.
Deasia Goodson finished with a game-high 19 points for Mercy. The Knights are back in action Monday evening at home against Bridgeport.
