Box Score QUEENS, N.Y. - The Queens College volleyball team opened the 2015 season with a four set victory over East Stroudsburg University Friday afternoon at FitzGerald Gymnasium.
After winning the opening set 25-21, the Knights dropped set two 26-24. Queens College then took the third set 25-23 and the fourth set 25-21 as the Knights claimed the victory in first year mentor Jason Octave's head coaching debut.
Senior LB Xhesi Domi reached the 1,000 career digs mark in the contest, finishing the match with a game-high 24 and pushing her total to 1,010 in three-plus seasons.
Junior MB Tori Bowser led the Knights with 14 kills, while senior OH Else Buchmiller contributed a double-double with 16 digs and 11 kills.
Sophomore OH Ragina Anthony tallied 21 digs in the win and sopohomore S Kristen Moore registered 33 assists.
Sophomore Desiree Claxton led the Warriors with 17 kiils, while sophomore Erica Cunningham registered 29 assists and senior Maddie Hutchison accumulated 22 digs.
Early in the opening set, The Knights trailed 5-3 before five straight points gave the squad the lead for good. In the back and forth second set, Queens led 24-22 before ESU took the final fourth points.
In set three, the Knights led by as many as seven points before the Warriors cut the lead to 24-23 late. A service error by East Stroudsburg proved to be the difference.
In the fourth set, Queens trailed 13-11 before a four point swing pushed the Knights ahead for good. A kill by senior MB Bianca Steele was the contest's deciding point.
Queens is back in action Sunday afternoon when it welcomes Saint Anselm to FitzGerald Gymnasium for a 12:00 pm start.
