Box Score 2 WEST HAVEN, CONN. - The Queens College volleyball team dropped two matches Saturday on the second day of competition at the Charger Invitational, hosted by New Haven. The host Chargers defeated the Knights in five sets in the day's first game, before Queens lost to Post in four sets.
In the opener, the teams traded victories in the first four sets. New Haven took the first and third sets, while the Knights claimed sets two and four. In the close fifth and final set, the Chargers claimed victory by scoring five of the final eight points.
Senior Arielle DiCocco led Queens with 16 kills in the match, while junior Tori Bowser registered 12 kills and senior Else Buchmiller and freshman Nicoletta DiCocco had 10 apiece. Splitting time at the setter position, sophomore Jessica Yin tallied 28 assists while sophomore Kristen Moore has 23 of her own.
Sophomore Ragina Anthony posted a team best 28 digs, while Yin had 19 and senior Xhesi Domi had 17 digs. Buchmiller tallied 16 digs to complete a double-double. New Haven was led by Meghan Kennelly's 29 digs and 23 kills.
In game two, Post came out strong and took the first set 25-8, before claiming set two 25-20. The Knights looked destined for a short contest, as the Eagles jumped out to a 10-1 lead in the third set. Queens countered with a 13-3 run to take a one point lead. With the Knights ahead 23-20, Post cut the lead to one, before Queens completed the set with a pair of kills by Bowser. In set four, the Eagles overcame a four point deficit and ended the contest on a 5-2 run to take the set 25-21.
A. DiCocco had 11 kills in the contest, while Yin and Moore each tallied 14 assists. Domi finished with a match high 21 digs. Skylar German had 13 kills for Post. The Knights are back in action Sept. 18 at Stonehill (4:00 pm).
