Box Score Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. - The Queens College men's basketball team used a strong second half rally to pull away from Mercy for an 87-67 win in an East Coast Conference game played in Dobbs Ferry on Saturday. The Knights shot 57.4% from the field in the victory.
Queens trailed 12-3 over the first 3:32 of game time, with the lone basket coming off a Diego Maldonado three-pointer. QC then used a 15-3 run to take an 18-15 lead. Maldonado scored five points in the run. Kyheim Chaplin scored the final four points. Jeremiah Mordi and Shaquille Thomas each had a three-pointer. The Knights built a nine-point halftime cushion, with Paul Little capping the scoring inside of a minute. Little was a perfect 4-4 shooting in the game.
A Maldonado layup five minutes into the second half put the Knights ahead by eleven, 44-33. Mercy rallied and tied the score at 44-44 will 11:32 left in the game. From there, QC woke up and pulled away for the twenty point win.
They broke the tie with eight straight points, a trifecta from Chaplin and five points from Mordi. A Maldonado three inside of eight minutes put QC up by a dozen, 63-51. A Thomas dunk with 0:35 put the Knights up 20, and they went on to win, 87-67.
In the win, Chaplin scored a game-high 24 points. Maldonado shot 8-12 en route to 21 points. Mordi totaled 19 and Thomas came off the bench to finish with 11. The team improved to 5-16 overall, 5-9 in the ECC. They face UDC on the road on Wednesday.
