Mordi and Maldonado in Double Figures Against LIU Post

Box Score

Brookville, N.Y. - The Queens College men's basketball team fell to LIU Post, 62-46 in an East Coast Conference basketball game played in Brookville, New York, on Saturday.  Diego Maldonado and Jeremiah Mordi scored 13 points apiece to lead the Knights.

Queens started out much hotter than the driving snow outside the Pratt Recreation Center as they lead 8-0 en route to a 17-2 lead over the first 7:08 of game time.  First, it was an 8-0 lead for QC as Mordi connected with Maldonado for a three-pointer.  From there, it was Mordi who got on the scoreboard with a jumper off an assist from Paul Little.  Little then capped the 8-0 run with a trifecta of his own.

The Pioneers got on the scoreboard when Isaiah Stokely made one of two foul shots.  Maldonado and Mordi promptly hit consecutive threes and the score was 14-1.  Another Stokley free throw made it 14-2.  Mordi hit a layup and Little hit a foul shot and the score was 17-2.  The 15-point cushion was the largest of the game for the Knights.

From there, LIU Post used a 20-0 run to take a 22-17 lead.  Obi Udezeh broke up the run with a driving layup.  The Pioneers led at the half, 31-20.

Kyheim Chaplin and Guilherme Brodt each buried jumpers to open the second-half scoring and QC was within seven, at 31-24.  LIU Post pushed the lead back into double digits and Queens would get as close as nine points, but the Pioneers went on to win, 62-46.

With the loss, the Knights are now 6-18 overall and 6-11 in the ECC.  The team returns to action on Tuesday, February 24, when  they host Molloy at 7:30 PM.
